This peer research project, conducted by young residents working alongside housing associations MTVH, Clarion and Hyde, explored how youth voice and leadership can be embedded in housing association decision-making. The research found that 76% of young residents feel they have little or no say in decisions about their living situation, and that young people are largely invisible to housing providers as a distinct stakeholder group. Key barriers include poor living conditions, lack of trust in housing associations, and young residents frequently not being named tenants. The report recommends that housing associations formally define young people as a separate stakeholder group, create integrated youth voice representation structures, and develop age-specific communications strategies co-produced with young residents.
